ack

kinda missed out on posting about thanksgiving D: didn’t mean to just got swamped with some junk.

i’m a bit pissed off a flickr recently over their guidelines involving content thieves. i’ve found several people ripping off images from deviant art and claiming them as their own. they get to go on their merry way yet those of us who are sick of seeing thieves running rampant get punished when we try to do something to put a stop to them. a friend of mine made a flickr group and yes we were naming names and showing people that there are thieves out there… and of course flickr squashed it… do they squash the thieves? no. not at all… the stolen work still remains and nothing is done!

*grumps* anyway i’m also pretty irritated at despair and i’m thinking of just taking myself off of it.. what’s the point when i’ve only had a couple of commenters… that site used to be great and i used to end up with alot of comments and alot of new blogs to check out.. but now it just seems dead. the urge to blog kinda dies when i am faced with the fact that no one is actually reading this thing :/ i dunno maybe i’m just being down or something… bleh.

i’m off to walmart for groceries now…

  • I hate content thieves so much. There’s not alot you can do about it though, is there? Anyway, I also use despair and although I have always prided myself on commenting promptly, I let it go since Thanksgiving because I’ve been so busy. I feel bad about it and I’m trying to catch up. I shouldn’t feel bad though, because like you said, I barely get any comments from despair people.

Anyway, Hope your Thanksgiving was great.

  • I’m sorry to hear about the issue with Flickr. I have to admit I rarely, if ever, browse through DeviantArt and Flickr, but content thieves are everywhere, and I myself have been a “victim” numerous times (although I brush them off; it’s pretty amusing when it happens to you, but infuriating when it happens to others). Maybe you should contact the Flickr management and explain the situation. Contact also the original makers so that they could do proper action.

Re: Despair.nu, well, meh. I’ve long ago stopped thinking about it. I used to report religiously the ones who don’t comment on my site, but nothing ever comes out of it so I got tired and a little bit frustrated. I haven’t removed myself — except for about a year of “hiatus” — because I still like checking out new sites. Comments are irrelevant to me; after all, it was through Despair I found a couple of amazing sites I still visit regularly up to now. ;)

  • I know what you mean about not having the urge to blog anymore – I really need to start working on that.

  • I’m sorry you’re having issues with Flickr. I don’t know why they’re not doing more to catch people claiming one’s artwork as their own, but I’m sure it isn’t because they think it’s okay. It may be that they receive so many complaints that it’s difficult for them to respond to them all, or may be that they have no real way of knowing that someone who claims their artwork was stolen is being truthful. I don’t really know, but I am sorry you’re having this problem. Have you contacted Flickr directly to see if you can find out what their issue is?

I do wish you luck in getting these people under control. :)

  • That sucks about Flickr. Some people are just morons I guess.
I know how you feel about Despair, I have gotten 2 comments of the last 3 e-mails. I guess we should be reporting those who don’t comment (I usually try to). I dunno though.

  • Yeah I used to be a member of despair and I stopped using it bcauswe of similar reasons. I relized I don’t like poeple commenting because they are forced to and not because they are inspired of the blog! :)

  • There are always content theives. It sucks that there’s not more being done about it, but I have to say that with a site as big as flickr I’m sure it’s a huge job for them to deal with.

As for Despair, I’ve never bothered reporting people unless I’d notice they’ve done it more then once. And some times I know it’s hard to comment on some blogs. I like it for seeing new sites, and I’m pretty sure that right now my site would get zero hits if not for despair…but that’s just me :)

  • I agree with the Despair thing, it’s getting really annoying. The comment numbers have been going down and the quality of sites seem to be too. I have the same dilemma as you.

  • Arghh I truly hate content thieves. It’s insane Flickr doesn’t take off the content and took down your group :( Naming & shaming content thieves are fine with me. Somebody should put a stop to it! Hmm reminds me a little of the content theft in SL™ it’s crazy! I reported a skin theft to a well known designer, but later I heard that designers just gave up reporting it to LL because if he would keep on reporting – he would be busy 24/7 *sigh*

Hehehe funny you’re writing about Despair. Until yesterday I was a happy commenter and tried to report everyone who wasn’t commenting on my website (which was pretty much). I received a mail I was reported and my account was de-activated – like wtf? I already had trouble visiting the website due some strange settings over at the host of Despair. So I emailed Naco gave some feedback (again) and decided to keep my acount de-actived until things get better again *gulp*

I really liked the whole Despair concept, but lately it’s just been aweful. So I’m back to old fashioned blog hunting and looking for nice blogs to comment at. It might be a little harder, but at least I don’t have to put up with people who don’t comment *gahhh*

Also really cool you’ve been DJ-ing for 2 years in SL™ !!! Hahaha I think you’re actually the first person who came in touch with my site through Despair who is a fellow SL™ resident too ~

  • Is despair still working? I don’t even get emails to comment anymore. Am I supposed to be getting emails? Maybe that’s why no one comments on your blog from there anymore.

    • Whoops. Never Mind. I wasn’t getting emails because I had my email written down wrong. Well, there’s one more active despair member for you! haha.

  • I understand exactly what you mean! The same thing goes for annoying idiots who steal peoples photos from Myspace and go around posing as that person =\ How dumb. But, art work is more serious =P it is personal and it takes a lot of effort. So to know someone is going around jockin’ sayin the did it is a real disappointment =\

Anyhow, I agree with your comments about Despair too. No offense, but its a miracle im even here commenting YOUR blog. most the links i get are dead…the pages are out of wack and not readable…or they just plain suck and are in a dif. language or somethin =\ yea Despair really has slacked off, they may as well shut it down. You can try exentrique.net …its ‘okay’.
