this time around i’m writing about another app i found for the ipod touch/iphone. anyone that knows me knows that i am a big nerd for facebook games. i have farms, fishtanks, cafes, you name it i probably joined it. then one day i saw one of my facebook friends post an achievement from something called “zombie farm” and i went O_O .  the perfect game… zombies, and a farmville style game. i downloaded it immediately (it was free!) and i seriously love it.

you play a little farmer who is not only growing crops, but also growing zombies. it is very much like those farm games on facebook but with one difference. after you reach the max amount of zombies (right now its 16, not sure if that changes as you level up) you can choose to “invade” farmer mcdonnell’s farm. once you hit invade the game changes. its you against the farmer. he’s on a barn throwing crap while his helpers poke at your zombies with pitch forks.

as you progress in the game you recieve the option to grow different types of zombies (and crops for cash). different zombies have different fighting styles and having the right ones on hand can mean winning the invasion stage or not. so far i have not lost any of the invasions but i cringe every time i lose a zombie. some of the zombies you can grow will even fertilize your crops which help them grow.

this is definitely a winner in my book. i’m only level 5 but i’m hooked on this game!

those of you who are into old school gaming probably know about roms and emulators. for those who don’t, basically an emulator allows you to play console games on your computer. roms are the game images that emulators play. the legality of roms and emulators is sketchy but the rule is usually that if you own the original game, you can legally play the rom version on your computer. rom hacks are patched versions of old games, usually mario but sometimes mega man and stuff like that. these versions change things to give you a whole new game! so if you ever get tired of normal super mario, you can play a whole new world.

i love to play snes games and mario has always been a fave of mine since i was a kid, so i love the hacks that are out there for the game series. one that i am playing on and off at the moment is Super Mario World: The Second Reality Project Reloaded, which is a hack for the super mario world game for the snes. i’m going pretty slow with it at the moment, because i don’t have a lot of free time on my hands but so far its been a pretty fun trip back into the world of mario. its a bit tougher than the original but the challenge is fun!

another great place to find mario rom hacks is at smwcentral.net. they have a huge list of different ones to play, including an english translation of brutal mario, which is INSANE from what i have seen of it on youtube. haven’t even tried to touch that one yet…

i haven’t really ventured past mario rom hacks but i know there are other games that have also been altered and remade, just need to go looking for them. got any recommendations for me to check out? let me know in the comments!

so i’ve been planning to write this review for quite some time but i wanted to try and get somewhere in the game before hand. unfortunately this game is so hard i can’t even make it past the first couple of stages…

I Want To Be The Guy is an insane platformer indie game that i saw someone playing in a youtube video walkthough. i decided to download it and try it out and though looking at it makes it seem simple, trying to play it will make you insane. the graphics are 8bit. from what i’ve seen, they borrow a lot from old nes and snes games and a lot of old video game character sprites pop up randomly as bosses. in a way its kind of an homage to games of my childhood.

since i can’t really get anywhere in the game i can’t really write a very good review but i did want to recommend it to my readers because the challenge is kinda fun. the forums even have more games, made by fans of the original that are also as challenging.

since i can’t really get though the game, i’ll leave you with a video of someone playing it on very hard mode so you can see what you’re up against.

this is not a sponsored review, i am doing this because i love games.

i was recently given my dad’s ipod touch so i’ve been spending some time getting to know it and the apps that it can use. since i’m a fan of games i decided to take a look at what games are available and found this awesome app called Tap Tap Revenge 3. it was free so it had my attention, and i downloaded it fairly quickly.

the game is a rhythm game, not unlike dance dance revolution or guitar hero. your goal is to tap glowing orbs as they roll down one of 3 tracks on the screen to the beat of the song. i’ve only played easy mode and a bit of medium but it seems to get harder as you progress in the game, in some of the medium levels there were lots more orbs to hit and it required me to use 2 and sometimes 3 fingers to hit all the combos.

i really love rhythm games so this was a treat for me. the songs were awesome and it even had one of my recent faves, fireflies by owl city. every song has its own special artwork associated with it, which is pretty cool, but sometimes it can be a hindrance when you need to know when to tap and hold a button down but you can’t see the glowing trail behind the orb because it blends into the background.

all in all i’d say this is a great time waster, and i hope i don’t tap a hole in my ipod playing it lol. tap tap revenge 3 is made by tapulous and can be found in the app store for free under the games category.

i have a new game! i snagged gyromancer the other day and i am totally in love with it. its the unholy marriage between squaresoft and popcap games. basically you are playing bejewled twist but… with a twist! :p its got an rpg style to it where you go though a story and you are battling monsters by playing the game. so far i’ve only gotten past the first stage (not a lot of time to play lately) but i’m really loving it.

i love puzzle games and i especially love bejewled… i have no idea why, i’ve just always been hooked on it. i originally found this game mentioned on a penny arcade comic strip and i just had to google it to see if it was a real game or just something they made up! i was very pleased to find it was real. you can get gyromancer on steam or for the xbox 360 on xbox live. the website for it is here.

i love to watch justin.tv especially the gaming channels. i’ve found a lot of really interesting japanese videogames to play online from there. last night i stumbled across typemania and my fingers now hate me.

i am a really fast typer. about 80 wpm, but i do make a lot of small mistakes and hit the backspace. i’ve learned how to hit it fast enough that it doesn’t usually count against me in time though. i love typing games but this one knocked me flat on my ass.

in typemania you type out the lyrics to a song one line at a time as it plays. there’s a time bar that counts down for that specific line and you try to beat the time line with your typing. there is no backspace.. and oh yeah.. you’re typing japanese!

the songs are all from videogames and anime from what i can tell. for me it was a lot of fun. but it drove me nuts trying to type the words O_O . even though they are english characters, they are japanese words, and so it gets a little confusing when you’re used to quickly typing english words. all in all i loved it. i’m sure i’ll be addicted to it for a while.
